I’ve just been round to visit my bro after my holiday and have found that he has been making home videos with his new camcorder. He has uploaded a few onto youtube and for his first attempts I’m really impressed.
You can see him here slicing up a pineapple with his katana that I bought him for his 24th birthday, here slicing another pineapple which he cleverely hung from the ceiling and here slicing up a precariously balanced water melon.
I especially like the funky use of oriental background music.

nice videos. rated all 3.
We never did get around to checking your bro’s camcorder specs, but I suspect he can achieve a higher quality video on youtube.
Can you e-mail me his make and model, and I’ll check what should be feasible?
Oh, and if you like, it is REALLY easy to actually embed the videos in your post, so they play directly. I’ll mail the details.
Yo man It’s a JVC GR-D250 EK.

OK, so your camcorder has a firewire port.
Is this how you are transferring the video to your PC? If not, a firewire PCI card for your computer would be dead cheap, and result in a higher quality video.
If you are already using a firewire cable to xfer vids, then what format are you uploading to YouTube with?
You will probably get the best results if you resize the video to 320×240 , using either a xVid or DivX codec, with the bitrate as high as possible, as long as the resulting file is less than 100Mb. (I believe YouTune place a 10 minute and 100Mb limit on uploads).
If you rely on YouTube to convert your video to that format, there will usually be a discernible loss of quality, compared to doing it yourself first…
Nero’s NeroVision Express (part of Nero 6, and I’m assuming 7?) can do the job, though I prefer VirtualDub personally. Check with your sister if you want either – she has the files and basic instructions, if you require them. If you want any assistance, and Alex is busy/non-plussed by it all, mail me
I should have mentioned, if the clip is short, you obviously will reach a point where setting the quality any higher will do nothing other than give you a larger file to upload – experiment a little to find the best cut off point
Yeh i am using firewire the usb cable malfunctions. Dunno what format it is or uploads too. I havn’t a clue how to change the rez or bit size that’s why i’ve been doing short vids and not one long one edited. I want to be able to downsize the files so i can edit more than a few into one but i havnt a clue how. I’m using nero 7
OK, I’ve made a post, because my original comment went out for far too long. Check out

when you get a moment, and leave me a comment there if you need something explained in more detail, or I have left out something.
If any of the steps I describe come across in a patronising manner, please excuse me, I’m not sure what level of expertise you have, so didn’t want to miss anything too obvious.
Similarly, if I have gone over your head at some point, leave me a message or mail me, and I’ll try to elaborate.
Sound man cheers for the info and level level of xp is nil when it comes to video editing in any shape or form.
