Cover Girl

When the August edition of the Suzuki Club magazine got delivered we were delighted to see our little Sierra on the front cover in colour. I think this picture is of the first hill climb we did. My trip report was also inside along with lots of photos taken by various people including myself.

As I didn’t actually take that many pictures of our zook it is nice to see that other people did and reminds me I must go onto the club photo vault and see if there are any more that would be good to show here.

Two Years Today!

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Today is the two year anniversary of me and Mat’s first date :-)

We couldn’t have asked for a better day. The weather was beautifully sunny again and, as last Sunday, we all went down to Whale Beach for a breakfast barbie: Mat and I, Nick and Kat, Henry and Ruth with their new puppy Mulch, Daveo, Jacinta and their children, some friends of Daveo’s with their children and Daveo’s cousin Phil.

After a greasy fry up the lads went for a surf (except Mat who just swam). As there was no wind this time and it was so warm I went for a proper swim in the sea too(unlike last Sunday when all I did was get my legs wet). I reckon the water temperature was around 17°C whereas outside was about 27/28°C.

After coming home, showering and relaxing for a short while Mat decided we should go out for a meal to celebrate so we headed off into the village to find somewhere nice to eat. We opted for a classy looking tapas restaurant, The Different Drummer, but we were a tad early as they didn’t open until 6pm so we went for a romantic walk down to Avalon beach and back first.

Back at the restaurant we were both very impressed. The decor, lighting and music was all very ambient with a wonderful log burner in the middle of the main room. Being upstairs, there was also a semi-enclosed balcony area which was equally inviting but unfortunately off limits tonight as it was reserved for a private booking. The food and drink certainly didn’t disappoint either. We shared a mixed meat tapas consisting of lovely turkish bread and dips, harissa chicken, marinated lamb kebabs and a seafood platter of calamari and prawns. We also had some mushroom risotto balls as an extra. For drinks Mat had two glasses of the house red, which he said were really nice and I had an awesome creamy cocktail consisting of Baileys, Cointreu, Creme de Cassis, cream and chocolate sauce, so yummy I had to have a second one. We finished off sharing two desserts which were equally as scrumptious as everything else; an orange creme caramel and churros (mini sausage shaped doughnuts) and caramel sauce.

The total bill ended up being $150 which included a 10% surcharge for it being a Sunday; not cheap but certainly not expensive for a wonderful fine dining experience. We will definitely be going back again, ideally with a whole group of people as it’s perfect for sharing and trying lots of different foods.

And so our lovely day draws to a close and I look forward to spending many more years with my beloved. Who would have thought that our first date, consisting of a cinema trip to watch The Bourne Identity followed by sitting in Stroud McDonalds carpark chatting until 2am, just ten days before Mat was leaving for Australia, would lead to this!

I love you Mathew xxx

Suzuki Club trip – Meryla State Forest – Day 2

Friday, August 7th, 2009

[Continued from Day 1]
The weather remained fine the next day. There had been about five minutes of drizzle at around 6am but it didn’t come to anything. We were all up early around 7am (apart from Tim who was last – does this deserve a fine?) and got the fire going again for cups of tea and coffee. There were fry-ups all round and a leisurely tidy up afterwards as we waited for Ray and Sandra to return. Much to everyone’s surprise the mobile signals had picked up and Tim earned another fine for receiving a phone call from Tubby, kindly informing him that the Suzuki Club website was down.

Camp Breakfast Our Sierra stuck in the mud Mat needs winching out Ray and Sandra arrived at 10.30am and by that stage everyone had pretty much packed up camp so we decided to take everything with us. Five minutes from setting out Mat charged a muddy bog and came a cropper when he was stopped dead by a (more…)

Why does this blog look different?

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Recently I have Chris has moved this website away from my old free hosting over to his own paid for hosting because he was keen for it to look more professional (i.e. lose the big advertising banner across the top of the page) and for my RSS feed to work (which for some reason didn’t with the free hosting). The nice little plugin that had the thumbnails pop up in their own window had stopped working and it seems it may have something to do with the dodgy bodged-together theme I have been using.

Chris (my personal blog fairy) has been experimenting with new themes, hence the new look. It is by no means a permanent thing as it still looks bodgy and needs a lot of work doing to it, but the picture viewer now seems to be working.

Please bear with it for a while until I find the time and acquire the expertise to find and customise a theme I feel happy with. It may be that I swap to a simple and plain one for a time, just so that I know everything will work and it will all sit properly on the page without any dodgy misalignments etc etc.

In the mean time, a big thank you to Chris for all his hard work in the wee small hours, especially as he now has the added responsibility of helping Irina look after their five month old baby, Anna, now :-)

Sunnyfield Rabbits

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

I have seen my Sunnyfield rabbits around work quite a few times since my ‘Why did the rabbit cross the road?’ post and last Friday presented a better than average photo opportunity.

I was somewhat late in arriving at work (due to getting a little distracted in the morning, talking to my friends on Facebook) and as a result had to park up in the back car park. There is a largish patch of grass which is railed off to the back of the car park and as I was going to my car ready to leave for the day I spotted two rabbits, one brown, one white and brown. As I passed them they seemed not to bothered about my presence so I got out my camera and took some shots:

Rabbit - Brown Rabbit - Brown & White Rabbits x2

You can see the difference in camouflage ability in the third picture; the brown and white rabbit stands out whereas the plain brown blends well in comparison. I’m guessing there can’t be any foxes in this area or the mixed colour rabbit wouldn’t last very long. I’m not sure if he is the only one with white in his coat on this site and now I have a closeup picture of him (her?) I will pay more attention to the markings next time I spot them. I may even start to name the rabbits I can recognise like I have done with Limpit, one of the many Masked Lapwings that inhabit Sunnyfield who stands out due to a wonky leg… but that’s another story :-)
