I am currently into my second half of Certificate IV in Web Design at Hornsby Tafe, NSW.
This is my temporary portfolio to demonstrate some of the skills I have acquired so far. As part of my final project at Tafe I will be completing a professional portfolio which will be up and running and available to view on a separate website by the end of June this year (2011).
Examples of photoshop cutting up, html and css
First Tafe assignment – boating
This was my first photoshop cut up assignment. I was given this psd file and had to cut it up and convert it to html and css.

Second Tafe assignment – sports warehouse
This was my second assignment where I was given a psd file and I had to cut it up and mark up the html and css to create the web page.

Examples of Design Work
First Design Assignment
This was my first design assignment. The brief was to create a web design for new client, Star Burger, to be fresh, healthy, clean, bright and energising. It had to include certain links (per navigation bar) and was to be 900px by 800px in size. We were provided with the logo and a selection of photos. We were not allowed to use our own photos.
I created the design in Adobe Fireworks and also, though not required for the assignment, sliced up and produced a functional web page from my design which can be viewed here.
Second Design Assignment
The brief was to create a new website for chartered accountants, BoostWorks. The design had to be corporate and professional. Only 3 colours could be used and no photos were allowed, only fonts and shapes. The canvas had to be 960px wide.
I designed the logo from scratch in Adobe Illustrator and produced the layout design in Fireworks.
Third Design Assignment
The brief was to create a web design for a client, Australian Sustainability. It had to promote sustainability and environmental issues throughout Australia whilst being clean and user friendly. Certain links were to be included (per navigation bar) and the canvas was to be 960px wide. We were provided with the logo and a selection of photos and images. No additional images were to be used.
All work was done in Adobe Fireworks.
Fourth Design Assignment
The brief was to create a web design for a ballon business, Fantastik. It had to clean, easy to use, corporate, a box layout and make use of a 960 template. The logo and a selection of photos were provided and no additional images were to be used. A swirl eps file was also provided and had to be incorporated into the design somewhere (see header and footer). We also had to find a way to make the repeated word, “our”, in the navigation stand out; I chose to illustrate a balloon and write “our” on it.
All work was done in Adobe Fireworks.
Fifth Design Assignment
The brief was to create a web design for a surfing company, Surf Australia. The target audience was 30-50 year old surfers, mainly females and the design had to make use of a 960 template. The logo and a selection of photos were provided and no additional images were to be used.
As well as the design I also had to convert the flat image into functional html and css which can be found here.
This proved to be a challenging lesson as I had overcomplicated the design of my form inputs and was not able to pull off the select box for tide times exactly to the specification.
Real Life Client
All Arbor Services
This is my first real client and is still a work in progress. The design is complete and the majority of the mark up and coding is done but the actual wording of the content is still being drafted and photos are being collated.
The client provided me with the logo. I have designed the layout of this brochure website, provided a photo gallery using javascript Lightbox 2, a contact form with client side javascript validation and made it IE6 compliant. Before the website goes live I will also complete SEO.
